Damn. This made my day. Does just enough and the controls are tight (at least on VICE). With the laser beans there's just enough challenge. I can totally have seen myself loading this from a PD disk passed to me without a label or downloaded off a BBS.

I really love your having an official music recommendation and it's slick how you integrated it into the web version. I loaded it up to loop on VLC for the complete experience.

One thing I would recommend is including a README in the zip confirming you should load and jump to the .bin directly at $8000. I know that's the standard, but I still had to guess. Obviously, a self loading d64 would be even better. Also, the README definitely needs to include the keyboard controls. I assume they are strange to work with the embedded web emulator, but for me they were something bizarre like 1,2,END, and CTRL.

I really appreciate your bringing this to NG. This is awesome!

siddikinz responds:

Thanks! I totally forgot to include a README with the zip file, but I'll be sure to add one now. I'll also include a self loading disk image like you suggested!

EDIT: The zip file now includes a README and a self loading disk image!

Sure there's a couple of bugs with the hotspots and sizing and I do miss the visceral aspect of being able to actually drag and drop the clothes, but it's all more than made up for by the theming and having an actual goal. It's a nice little take on doing something more with the toy format. I like it!

[edit/reply1] So the black and white striped "Beetlejuice" blouse seems to become unclickable when you're wearing certain tops. You have to switch to a different top and then you can click it. Could be a matter of just a small area to click on I'm not sure.

Thetageist responds:

You’re the second person to suggest adding drag and drop. I think I’m going to look into figuring out how to do that in Game Maker. Biggest question is probably going to be how to make it work both ways, so that it isn’t confusing for people who play these either way.

(Also, what hotspots are you referring to, am I missing a bug?)

This is an amazing little experiment. I love how the gameplay is driven by the rap track and the hitboxes and controls accurately simulate what I imagine to be both of your levels of physical fitness.

Cyberdevil responds:

Appreciate it. :) Main menu weight/height stats are 100% real, current visual physical fitness otherwise potentially a liiittle bit buffed up for my character. Kwing's in great form for real.

That's my secret Peter, I'm always jacking off.

I'll second a few readability and hitbox issues along with some general framerate jank despite playing the desktop version.

Really though, all of that pales by just how insanely impressed I am with the team and what it's achieved here:

An extremely solid platformer with absolutely amazing production values and a strong sense of identity.

nulledwine responds:

Thanks so much for the kind words, we’re working on optimizing things for the full version; hopefully the frame rate and hitbox issue wasn’t too bad.

Very nice "box2d" style physics game!

This has to be a bug only me and two other people will ever encounter: when using a mouse on iPad Safari, the game occasionally stops responding to the mouse and only accepts touch input.

OverNuked responds:

Interesting bug, will have to try to reproduce. Thanks for the feedback!

This has a lot of social/streaming potential, as you guys say. Kind of a more chill "Keep Talking".

Respect for the hustle and the price is right. I just bought on steam. Best of luck to you guys.

Zfert responds:

Thank you so much for your support! We hope you enjoy the game, either solo or with friends and family :)

I like the single screen arcade vibes here and the focus on planned movement.

Easier to "read" than "George The Gentleman Frog", but still a bit unclear even with the graphical options, if I'm honest.

[Edit: These options make a huge difference! I can't tell you how impressed I am with you taking this issue so seriously or responding so quickly! +1 :) ]

pugfuglygames responds:

Just released a new version with a few options to help. Cheers!

Worth overcoming the initial learning curve. Has an almost Windows Entertainment Pack sense of zen.

platformalist responds:

I played a ton of Chip's Challenge, Jezzball and Skifree from the Best of Entertainment pack when I was a kid, so hearing that makes my day. Thanks for playing, alsoknownas1 :)

I can't possibly say everything I want to about this incredible gem in a short comment. Everything adds up: the incredibly evocative (and cinematic) opening, the "QuickTime VR"-esque navigation, and just a hint of actual puzzle solving. The sum is one of the best "little" VN experiences I've had, not just on NG but anywhere.

*mild spoilers*

Even though it's not all my cup of tea tonally, I absolutely love the approach you've taken to narrative design with the "recruit" mechanic. The way that lets the mid-game branch out non-linearly to be recollected in the ending (and the presentation of said ending allowing for true integration of player choice) is low key brilliant. I really like the approach to dialog choices as well, with them more emphasizing one thing over another rather than being obviously "good" or "bad", it really made it feel like hanging out and talking.

Great work!

adayofjoy responds:

Glad you enjoyed the game and all the little design choices I tried out in it!
